For anyone that wants to know what some of the parts I used on the Comet build were, here is a list. I will make corrections and additions to this list over time.
SUSPENSION
Rear – 4-link (Johnny Law/Hoffman Group universal kit purchased off eBay, used the brackets mostly and replaced the links and rods with adjustable ones from Speedway; upper Afco 10″ steel 1063410, lower Afco 17″ steel 1063417), Lower front rod end replaced with a 1/2″ bushed end that fits in the front leaf spring pocket with a spacer, 8.8 rear out of a ’98 V8 Mercury Mountaineer with 3.73 trac-lock & disc brakes, narrowed at home to 56 3/4″ by using a second passenger axle on the driver’s side, Airbags (Slam Specialties SS-6 Bags), Rear Shocks from 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport (KYB KG4034), misc homemade brackets (upper shock mounts, etc)
Front – 1974 Mustang II manual R&P, MII 2″ drop spindles (Speedway UP37057 included brake brackets “garage sale item”). Crossmember (Welder Series 56.5 wide, only purchased the front, back & the coil-over upper mounts, plus homemade parts), Tubular Lower & Upper Control Arms with lower bag plates (GearHead off eBay), Airbags (Slam Specialties SS-5), Front Shocks 1982 Checker Marathon Cab (KYB KG5404 with bar pins removed) on a custom fabricated bracket, Modified Steering column sleeve out of a floor shift early ‘60s Mustang fabricated steering shaft by cutting original from the steering box and adding bearing and parts from a farm supply store, Sway bar is 7/8” Addco(?) that I installed in the car 30 years ago with fabricated end link brackets, end links.
ONBOARD AIR SYSTEM – Many fittings that are push to connect (PTC) DOT certified from Bag Riders and Michigan Truck Brakes?, Manual paddle valves in a fabricated box – Air Tank AVS Aluminum 5 Gallon (AVS-TK5ALUM-RW-6-N), Compressor – WOLO 860-C Air Rage 200psi 3.5 CFM heavy-duty air compressor.
TIRES & WHEELS – Tires Douglas Tires from Wal-Mart (P225/60R16 rear, P195/65R15 front), modifying rear wheel wells outer housing to clear, set the rear back 1-1.5“. Wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust 2 in 16×7” (4” BS) rear and 15×6” (3.5” BS) front.
BRAKES – 4 wheel disc listed above (’98 Ford Explorer & Speedway Metric calipers 91031045-R & 91031045-L, Rotors 91031066), 1985 Lincoln Town Car Brake manual disc master cylinder (Cardone 131518), Wilwood portioning valve (260-8419), 3/16” Copper-Nickel brake line with self-installed flare nuts
ENGINE – 250 cid inline 6 out of a ’77 Maverick bored .030 over, .030 oversized stock pistons with custom machined dishes, rods from 1986-91 Ford Tempo/Topaz (2.5L HSC/OHV) ARP connecting Rod bolts (ARP-154-6002), Stock oil pump (Sealed Power 22441165), GMB OE replacement aluminum water pump (125-1380); Head ’72 200 cid “M” Flat Log with 1977-82 intake (1.76) and exhaust (1.38) valves and hardened exhaust seats, ’74 Torino 302 exhaust valve springs (all 12 the same, Melling VS800), Adjustable rocker arms from an early 144-170 Ford 6, New valve guides with Viton valve seals, 67-’72 250 stock timing chain set, custom fabricated rear sump oil pan, ’65 Galaxie 390cid hydraulic lifters, ’65 Galaxie 390cid solid lifter pushrods, Howard’s Cams – Advertised Duration 275/275, Lift .470/.470 (HRS-280998-10), ARP Head studs (ARP-200-HSK), Felpro Head Gasket (7916 PT-1).
IGNITION SYSTEM – Ford Duraspark1 distributor, 78 Camaro 350 4 pin Ignition Control Module (ICM) (Standard Motor Products – LX301), ’88 S-10 2.5L Ignition Coil (Standard Motor Products – DR37) – Ignition Coil Connectors (Standard Motor Products HP4595 & HP4605)
FUEL SYSTEM – Self-made cast aluminum 3×2 intake with 3 1983 Ford Escort Carbs (Motorcraft 740/5740 progressive 2 barrel), Airtex electric fuel pump (E8016S), Summit 1.5-25 PSI Return Style Fuel Pressure regulator (SUM-220058), Summit Fuel Filter (SUM-220170C)
COOLING SYSTEM – Radiator is an aluminum Champion EC375 for big-block Fords from the late ‘60s – ’70s, 15″ Derale stainless flex fan (DER-19115)
EXHAUST – Dual out stainless header (from eBay), Dual stainless 2” pipes, Dual 14” Cherry Bomb glass packs (87048CB).
TRANSMISSION – 1996 3.8L Mustang T-5 Borg Warner, Tag Number 1352 238 gearing; 265 3.35 1.93 1.29 1.00 0.73, Input Shaft Length & Diameter 7.85-0.668. Clutch 2002 Mustang V6 (LUK 07114) , 96 Mustang V6 3.8L bell housing, 2002 Mustang 3.8L V6 168 Tooth, zero balance Flywheel (SACHS NFW1175), ARP pressure plate bolts (ARP-134-2203) & ARP Flywheel bolts (ARP-200-2802), Home Fabricated Hydraulic clutch setup (1986 Toyota Land Cruiser master [AISIN CMT032], 1992 Isuzu Rodeo slave [Centric 139.43005]) homemade brackets, AN-3 36″ braided SS hose. Aluminum Driveshaft from a 2009-11 Crown Vic Police Car.
MISC – Homemade wiring harness with numerous sensors, relays and factory plugs.
